Fifth Graders Go to College
For the last three years the Consortium has invited all of Hartford's 1,600 fifth graders to visit one of thirteen Connecticut campuses for an exciting day of activities, tours and special classes. The initiative works in concert with the Hartford schools to promote college awareness and early college planning. The program introduces students to campus life and encourages them to plan early in their school years for college and careers.
Kickoff at University of Hartford
The kickoff event for Fifth Graders Go to College 2007 was held at University of Hartford on March 26. Many civic and education leaders joined in to welcome fifth graders to University of Hartford. Mayor Eddie Perez and Elizabeth Rodriquez, a student from University of Hartford, are shown after they spoke to the fifth graders. Other speakers (not shown) included Walter Harrison, President of the University and master of ceremonies of the opening program, Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele, Edward Luna, representing the lead corporate sponsor Travelers and current graduate student at University of Hartford, and Laverne Terry, Deputy Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools. ![]() ![]()
Students Visit Central Connecticut State University
During the week of March 26, 2007, Hartford students visited CCSU and took part in many activities and classes, met with college officials and the Blue Devil Team Mascot. This is an unidentified Hartford student during his visit. ![]()
Students Experience a Day in the Life of a College Student
Fifth graders who visited University of Hartford were paired with college students who took them to classes, a tour of the campus and, of course, lunch. These students are visiting the New ISET Complex at University of Hartford. |
